Carla Brun

Carla has seen her clients reduce their symptoms, strengthen their relationships, and improve their lives. And yet, she still appreciates the courage it takes for someone to seek assistance in the first place. That’s why she practices a collaborative approach which thoughtfully pairs her expertise with her clients’ existing strengths.

Carla focuses first on creating a space where each client can feel safe, supported, and empowered as they learn more about themselves and pursue their own path to progress. This philosophy was formed as Carla earned a B.A. in Psychology from American University, a Masters in Social Work from New York University, and a postgraduate certificate in Relational Psychoanalytic Approaches to Working with Children and Adolescents from the National Institute for the Psychotherapies.

Outside of the office, Carla enjoys cooking, reading, and practicing yoga. As a first-generation Bolivian-American, she also loves learning about the foods, languages, and cultures of New York City’s many immigrant communities.

Over the past six years of knowing Carla I have seen her unwavering commitment to psychotherapy and to developing herself as a highly competent, creative, and compassionate clinician. Carla’s impressive professional experience and loving personality make her a sought-out clinician in the New York psychotherapy community.

– Tessa Jones, LMSW

Carla’s extensive knowledge of child and adolescent development has proven valuable to clients of all ages, empowering them to explore patterns set earlier in life and process traumatic childhood experiences. However, her psychodynamic orientation is balanced by an ability to help clients build concrete skills and manage immediate feelings of stress, anxiety, depression, or simply feeling “stuck.”

Carla always tailors her approach to the unique needs, interests, and strengths of her clients.

Her holistic focus also takes into consideration the impact that race, ethnicity, culture, religion, gender, and sexuality can have on clients’ lives. Carla’s practice is LGBTQ affirmative and anti-oppressive. As a bilingual Latina therapist, Carla specializes in providing psychotherapy to Hispanic/Latinx clients who identify English as their dominant language, though may want to occasionally express themselves in Spanish.
